Dr. Stress Coen spent her early childhood in Detroit before moving to Germany as a teen. Her international education, combined with growing up a first generation American, afforded her an understanding of the common ties that bind all people – a desire to be loved by family and friends, to be kept safe, and to realize academic and occupational success.
Dr. Coen completed her bachelor’s degree with a double major in Psychology & Philosophy from the University of Michigan. She obtained her first master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at New York University. She obtained her doctoral degree in Neuropsychology from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science. Dr. Coen completed an APA approved internship at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at Loyola University Medical Center. In 2009, Dr. Coen founded Children's Neuropsychological Services (CNS), a practice dedicated to serving children and adolescents with academic, attention, emotional, communication, and socialization difficulties. Dr. Coen has expertise in neuropsychological diagnostics related to: learning, attention, autistic spectrum, traumatic brain injury, and mood disorders. Dr. Coen has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her work has been presented both locally and internationally.
From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Coen expanded her crisis and trauma training by serving as a Unit Director of acute psychiatric specialty units at both Cook County Jail, and the Illinois Department of Corrections, Joliet Treatment Center and Stateville Correctional Center, where she supervised medium and maximum security severely mentally ill (SMI) patients.
In 2023, Dr. Coen renamed the clinic Clinical Neuropsychological Solutions (CNS), to better capture the practice breadth and her maturing young adult population, many of whom she has treated since they were children.
Dr. Coen currently works full-time for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Suicide Prevention Psychologist. She is available for assessment and consultation through her private practice on a part-time basis. Dr. Coen is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Illinois. She has met the training requirements of the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology and is in the process of obtaining board certification.
Dr. Coen's favorite self-care activities include trying new restaurants and attending museum exhibits with family, walking her Boxer dog, and practicing martial arts including Muay Thai and Krav Maga.
